UNREAL ENGINE GENERALIST

About the Role

As an Unreal Engine Generalist at Gimbal, you will be working alongside environment artists to help integrate vegetation assets and work to bring them to the highest possible standard inside the game's engine. You should have strong C++ skills, Unreal Engine experience (UE4-UE5), be comfortable with Perforce, and have a passion for problem solving. You are a generalist knowledgeable in areas such as Rendering, Systems, Shaders and Landscapes.

We are on the lookout for an artist that will regularly seek out advice from their colleagues to refine and perfect the art assigned as well as develop a solid foundation within the company.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industry experience working with Unreal Engine;


  • Experience using version control (Git, Perforce);


  • Proficient with Unreal’s Blueprint system, c++ is a bonus;


  • Solid lighting, shading, and layout for game engine skills;


  • Experience with Substance Painter, Quixel Mixer, or similar texturing software is an asset;


  • Experience with procedural workflows is a plus. (i.e. Houdini, Substance Designer);


  • Can provide portfolio work demonstrating strong technical artistic ability (composition, scale, colour, light) that includes Unreal / Unity-based work;

  • Creative, collaborative, and innovative mindset;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Motivation to seek input from colleagues and the ability to adapt accordingly. **Knowledge of Speedtree is an asset.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop shaders, tools, FX, modules, and/or various assets for the internal library and for different projects.

  • Work on vegetation placement in different Game environments.

  • Profile and optimize scenes to meet the project requirements without sacrificing visual fidelity.

  • Flag and troubleshoot rendering bugs.

  • R&D cutting-edge techniques for real-time art.

  • Discover and document methods learned during production for creating high-quality vegetation in Unreal.

  • Work closely with other artists and technicians to ensure parity between 3D software and Unreal.
